Big Magic: Landscape Painting on Summer Evenings at KLARA Art Studio

Step into a calm, playful space where creativity guides the way. This landscape painting workshop is for everyone who would love to paint - whether this is the first time you are picking up a brush or you draw every weekend.

Inspired by the ideas in ‘Big Magic’ by Elizabeth Gilbert, we’ll approach painting a landscape together with curiosity, courage, and a sense of lightness rather than pressure or perfection.

Together, we’ll explore landscapes not as something to “get right,” but as an invitation to notice, feel, and express. Expect gentle guidance, simple techniques, and plenty of freedom to experiment. There’s no such thing as mistakes here—only curiosity and sparks of imagination as your guide.

Come as you are, bring your imagination, and leave with not just a painting, but a renewed sense of creative confidence (and maybe a few paint splatters too)!

You will learn both intuitive mark‑making (to loosen up any nervous hands) and how to mix beautiful colours and tones as you paint a favourite landscape. Create an expressive, original painting by layering acrylic paints and making bold, playful marks—then pause, step back, and let the landscape gradually reveal itself to you.

Your landscape painting on a board can be created by building layers of colour over two to three sessions.

When: every other Thursday 7:30pm - 9:30pm

Where: Klara Art Studio, Bishopthorpe, York

Refreshments: wine or homemade mocktail and nibbles

NB: if you choose to frame a final piece, this is paid for separately.
